Mobile truck repair in Duluth comes with hills, a harbor and a lot of heavy freight. Neuman Truck Service works from Pine City, and our outfitted service trucks come up the interstate to fix rigs where they stopped. That can be a terminal or distribution lot, a job site on the hillside, a customer yard, or the shoulder of I-35 on Thompson Hill.

We answer the line 24/7 at (651) 491-4136. For Duluth calls we start on the phone: what the truck did, what codes or warning lights it shows, and what the trailer is hauling. That lets us identify the parts it likely needs and give you an estimate before work starts. A 12-month warranty covers repairs and maintenance.

Highways We Cover Around Duluth

  • I-35
  • I-535
  • US-53
  • US-2
  • MN-61
  • MN-194

Duluth is where I-35 ends, and northbound traffic climbs Thompson Hill to get there. MnDOT's Thompson Hill Information Center sits at milepost 250 at the US-2 junction, and from there the grade descends into the city. Exit 253A sends US-2 east over the Bong Bridge to Superior. Exit 255 is the rebuilt Twin Ports Interchange, the old Can of Worms, where I-35, I-535 and US-53 meet. The rebuild finished in 2025 and removed its left-hand exits and blind merges. The interstate ends at exit 259, London Road and 26th Avenue East, past the Leif Erickson Tunnel section that opened in 1992.

The bigger change for Twin Ports freight is the Blatnik Bridge. MnDOT and WisDOT are replacing the 1961 I-535 bridge over St. Louis Bay. MnDOT's project page calls for a full closure of roughly four to five years, starting in early 2027. The Bong Bridge and US-2 are the alternate, so plan on heavier truck traffic there. US-53 is still the route north to Virginia and the Iron Range, and MN-194 climbs the hill as Mesaba Avenue. I-35 back toward Cloquet is the way out to the southwest.

Serving Duluth Fleets

The Port of Duluth-Superior is the largest and busiest port on the Great Lakes and the farthest-inland port that oceangoing ships can reach. The Duluth Seaway Port Authority puts it at roughly 35 million short tons of cargo a year. Iron ore comes first, then coal, limestone and grain, with steel coil, cement, salt and wind turbine parts in the mix. Behind those ship numbers are trucks. Flatbeds and step decks haul coil and project cargo, hoppers serve the grain elevators, and contractors keep the waterfront running.

Away from the water, Duluth is a regional center for health care and tourism. The city's two hospitals alone account for more than 8,000 jobs. That means delivery routes, food and supply trucks, and city and contractor equipment working the hillside every day. Trucks that live on stop-and-go grades need brake repair more often. Liftgates and lighting call for electrical diagnostics, and regular fleet maintenance in your own lot keeps them on their routes.

Lake-Effect Snow and Hill Grades in Duluth

Duluth averages about 90 inches of snow a year, and Lake Superior adds lake-effect bands on top of that. Put that snow on a city built on a hillside and you get the classic Duluth breakdown. A loaded truck creeps down a grade on packed snow, leaning on the brakes the whole way, or loses traction on a climb. Those hills test brake chambers, slack adjusters, air dryers and compressors.

The salt and brine that keep those hills passable cause the other half of the problems. Trailer wiring, 7-way plugs, ABS sensors and ground straps corrode, and lights go dark at the worst time. Cold mornings add weak batteries, gelled fuel and DEF that freezes in the tank and lines. A trailer parked overnight near the harbor can have a stuck brake or a cracked air line by morning. On a long grade like Thompson Hill, a dragging brake or a failing wheel bearing can overheat a wheel end fast. If you smell hot brakes or see smoke, get to the shoulder and call before it becomes a fire.

How Much Does Mobile Truck Repair Cost in Duluth?

No two Duluth calls are the same, so there's no flat price. The cost depends on parts and any special equipment, diagnostic time, after-hours timing, and travel. That's why we try hard to identify the problem over the phone and bring the right parts on the first trip.

You'll have an estimate before any work starts. A 12-month warranty covers every repair and maintenance job, and you can pay by credit or debit card on-site.

About Duluth

Duluth is the county seat of St. Louis County. With 86,697 people at the 2020 census, it's Minnesota's fifth-largest city. It sits on a steep hillside that climbs from the Lake Superior shore to high ground inland. That is why so many of its streets are steep.

The Aerial Lift Bridge over the Duluth Ship Canal is the city's landmark. The Blatnik and Bong bridges carry I-535 and US-2 across to Superior, Wisconsin. Health care and tourism drive much of today's economy, and the port's ore docks, grain elevators and bulk terminals still work right alongside them.
