Fleet maintenance works best when it happens where the trucks already park. Neuman Truck Service brings PM service, truck oil changes and chassis lube to fleet yards, contractor lots and owner-operator driveways across Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. Your units don't lose a day driving to a shop and waiting in line. Service runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A PM can happen overnight, and the truck is ready for the morning dispatch.
A good PM program catches the slow failures before they become roadside calls. Those include a weeping wheel seal, a thin brake lining, an overdue air dryer cartridge and a battery that tests weak in October. Each visit comes with an estimate before work starts and a written record of the work. Maintenance work carries the same 12-month warranty as repairs.
What a PM Service Covers
Every fleet sets its own intervals, but a thorough PM touches these systems.
- Engine oil and filters: We change the oil and oil filter, service the fuel filters and water separator, and check the air filter against the restriction indicator.
- Chassis lube: Grease goes to the kingpins, spring pins, slack adjusters, S-cam bushings, U-joints, slip yokes, drag link ends and the fifth wheel plate.
- Brake measurements: We measure pushrod stroke on every chamber, check lining and drum condition, and test air system leak-down. That way we catch problems before an inspector finds them.
- Coolant condition: We test the freeze point and additive level and inspect hoses and clamps. We also check the fins on the radiator and the charge air cooler.
- Air dryer and air system: We replace the desiccant cartridge on schedule, check purge valve operation, and drain the tanks to keep water out of the brake valves.
- Batteries and charging: Battery load tests, clean terminals and an alternator output check matter most as winter comes.
- Tires, lights and wheel ends: The mechanic checks tread depth and pressure, lug nut indicators, and hub oil levels and seals. Every light on the tractor and trailer gets a check too.
- DEF filter and aftertreatment check: We replace the DEF filter at its interval, inspect sensor wiring for corrosion, and check the DPF pressure hoses.
How Mobile PM Service Works
Start with a list of units, their mileage or engine hours, and the date of each one's last service. From there, we schedule PMs at your yard at times that work for dispatch. That can be overnight, early morning, or on weekends when trucks sit. Tell us what oil and filters your fleet runs, or let the mechanic match to the engine maker's spec.
On service day, the mechanic handles the list one unit at a time: oil and filters, grease, inspection, measurements. If the inspection finds something, like a cracked air line or a leaking hub seal, the mechanic notes it with an estimate. You can approve it on the spot or schedule it. You get a record for every unit that shows the work done and what the mechanic found.
Setting PM Intervals That Fit Your Fleet
Federal rules require carriers to systematically inspect, repair and maintain their trucks. The rules don't hand you a schedule, though. FMCSA explains what systematic inspection, repair and maintenance means in its guidance. The agency says intervals are fleet specific, sometimes vehicle specific, and that the motor carrier sets them. That's on you, and it's worth getting right.
A useful program usually looks at miles, engine hours and calendar time together. A dump truck that idles on a job site all day wears differently from a tractor running I-94 to North Dakota. Vocational trucks often need grease more often than oil. Trucks that idle a lot need aftertreatment and DPF service sooner. A PM visit is also a natural time for an annual inspection. Our mechanics are qualified to do Minnesota and federal safety inspections (see DOT inspections).
Seasonal Maintenance for Minnesota and Wisconsin Fleets
The fall PM is the one that keeps trucks running in January. We load test batteries, check block heater cords and elements, and confirm coolant freeze protection. We also change air dryer cartridges so moisture doesn't freeze in the brake valves. Ahead of the cold, we drain fuel water separators, change filters and recheck tire pressures once nights drop below freezing, because cold air reads low. Worn or damaged rubber the mechanic finds then is a job for truck tire repair. Fleets parked in yards around Blaine or Cambridge face the same cold-morning starts as trucks farther north.
Spring brings a different list. A winter of road salt eats wiring, brake hardware and fasteners. The spring PM should look hard at lighting connectors, ABS sensor wiring, brake chambers and slack adjusters. That visit often falls during MnDOT's spring load restrictions. They run from early March into May, depending on the zone, and can change how some fleets schedule loads. For worn brake parts the spring PM finds, see truck and trailer brake repair.
How Much Does Fleet Maintenance Cost?
The cost of fleet maintenance depends on the service each unit needs plus the parts and fluids involved. Oil capacity, filter count and whether a unit needs an air dryer cartridge or DEF filter that visit all change the parts bill. The number of units we service in one trip also counts. So do travel to your yard and after-hours work.
You'll get an estimate before work begins, so you know the cost of a PM visit up front. Maintenance work carries a 12-month warranty, and you can pay by credit or debit card.

Feedback
Called in with a tire emergency and got Ryan on the phone — genuinely great experience. He was insightful, patient, and gave excellent customer service, even though we ended up not using them for the repair. You can tell they run a friendly, helpful shop. Would definitely call them again next time we're in a bind.

Fleet Maintenance FAQs
Questions

Can you do truck oil changes at our yard?
Yes. We do oil changes, filters and chassis lube on site at your yard or lot. That includes overnight and weekend work, so trucks stay on their routes.
How often should our trucks get a PM?
It depends on your fleet. FMCSA lets each carrier set its own intervals. Most fleets build them from engine maker recommendations, miles, idle hours and the kind of work each truck does.
Do you service trailers during fleet PMs?
Yes. We can inspect and service trailer brakes, lights, wheel seals, tires and landing gear on the same visit as the tractors.
Can you do a PM and an annual inspection together?
Yes. Our mechanics are qualified to do Minnesota and federal safety inspections. They can do the annual inspection during the same visit as a scheduled PM.
What happens if the PM finds a problem?
You get an estimate for the repair right away. You can approve it on the spot, or schedule it for another time if it's not urgent.
